Good Guest Privacy Policy
Last updated September 29, 2026
In short: Good Guest lets a host write a house guide and share it with the guests staying in their home. A guide has to reach those guests, so unlike a purely private app it is kept on a server. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, we never ask for your location or Bluetooth, and nothing runs in the background when the app is closed. One optional feature sends a guide you upload to an AI service so it can be sorted into sections.
Your account
You sign in with Apple, Google, or an email address and password. Accounts are handled by Firebase Authentication, part of Google Cloud. We keep your email address and which method you used, so the app knows which houses are yours.
If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only ever see Apple's private relay address.
What a host stores
When you write a house guide, it is saved to Google Firestore so your guests' phones can read it. That includes:
- The house: its name, address, entry instructions, door code, wifi name and password, rooms, little asks, notes and checkout list.
- Each stay: your guest's name, their dates, the access code, and any note you write them.
- Photos you add of the house, its rooms, or a particular ask.
Please only put in what you're comfortable sharing with the guests you invite. A door code and an address are exactly the sort of thing this app is for, but they are real details about your home.
What a guest stores
- Entering a working access code writes a pass that lets your phone read that one house and that one stay. Nothing else.
- Ticking off checkout items, and a note you choose to leave the host, are saved to that stay so the host can see them.
- Your checkout ticks are kept on your phone as you go and sent to the host in one go when you finish the list, or the next time you open the app. They are not sent on every tap.
Who can see what
- A host can only read and change their own houses, stays and codes.
- A guest can only read the one house and stay their code opens, and can only change their own checkout ticks and note. They cannot see other guests, other stays, or a list of codes.
- A code stops working when the host changes or deletes it, and expires shortly after checkout. Guest access ends with it.
- Codes can only be looked up one at a time, no more than once every two seconds, so they can't be guessed in bulk.
Working without a connection
Once a guest has opened their guide, it is kept on their phone so it still works with no signal. The app checks for the host's changes once when it opens, rather than holding a connection open or polling in the background.
Reading an existing guide with AI
Hosts can import a guide they already have, from a PDF, photos, or pasted text, instead of typing it again. This is optional and only happens when you choose it.
What you upload is sent to Google's Gemini model through Firebase AI Logic, so it can be sorted into the app's sections. You review everything it suggests before any of it is saved. If you'd rather not, type your guide in by hand and nothing is sent.
Google processes the request to produce the result. See Firebase's privacy information and Google's privacy policy.
To stop other software pretending to be this app, requests carry a Firebase App Check token from Apple's App Attest. It confirms the request came from the genuine Good Guest app and does not identify you.
What we don't do
- No advertising, analytics, or tracking tools, and no data brokers.
- We don't sell or share your data.
- We don't ask for your location, contacts, microphone or Bluetooth.
- Nothing runs in the background while the app is closed, and there are no push notifications.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera: only if you scan the pages of a guide you already have. You can skip it and type instead.
- Photos: you pick individual photos to add to your guide. The app never browses your library.
Your data, your choice
- Hosts: deleting a house removes its guide, its stays, its photos and its codes. Deleting your account removes your profile, every house you own and everything in them.
- Guests: deleting your account removes your profile and your passes into houses. Ticks and a note you left belong to the host's stay record, so ask your host to remove those.
- Guest access ends by itself when the code expires after checkout.
Where your data is kept
On Google Firebase (Google Cloud). Like any internet service, Google's servers see technical details such as your IP address in order to deliver requests; we don't use them to identify or track you.
Children
Good Guest is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Any new way of sending data will ask for your permission in the app first.
